The coat of arms as blazoned in full color on a White disc edged Gold enclosed by a Dark Blue border edged on the outer side with a Gold rope and inscribed above U. S. COAST GUARD' and below THIRTEENTH DISTRICT' between two bezants.
The compass rose symbolizes the Northwest ports of the Thirteenth District and its role in command, control and support to the waterways throughout Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and the 125-nautical mile shared border with Canada. The swords signify the Thirteenth District's readiness to promote maritime security, law enforcement and national defense. Medium blue alludes to the coastal and inland navigable waterways patrolled. The crested edge suggests the rough rivers or bars' located in the waterways of the Pacific Northwest. The tribal salmon indicates the strong presence of the Native Indian tribes of the region, with which the Thirteenth District works cosely.
SUPPORTERS
The anchor symbolizes maritime tradition. The trident represents sea power and the protection of the natural resources. The oar highlights the District's well-known mission of coastal search and rescue, including the air search and rescue detachment. It also recalls the history of the first life saving station and the surf men' that spent long hours practicing with their rescue equipment, performing beach patrol, when only the oars and human muscles were used against the sea.
